PEP: "P raktika in E uropäischen P artnerstädten"

(Internships in European Twinned Towns)

PEP is a project supported by the EU. PEP's objectif is to give youth from a network of European cities
(Trier, Metz, Gloucester, 's-Hertogenbosch and maybe soon Ascoli Piceno)
the possibility to go abroad for an internship. PEP exists since february 2003.

Here, you'll find answers to the following questions:

Why does the EU support PEP?

How did PEP work until now?

Who can participate?

Who organises PEP?

Which towns do participate in PEP?

How can an enterprise get an entry in the Database?

...and you can also find reports from PEP-students.

Why does the EU support PEP ?

PEP is supported by the EU within the YOUTH-programme. The action is called "FUTURE CAPITAL". FUTURE CAPITAL allows former European Volunteers to start their own projects in order to valorise the experiences they gained during their European Voluntary Service (EVS). Their local environment should profit from their EVS-experiences. More information about YOUTH, the EVS and FUTURE CAPITAL can be found under www.webforum-jugend.de  (website in German) .

Neither the EU nor the national agency are responsible for the project, and it doesn't express their opinion.

How did PEP work until now?

First, I wrote around 400 letters to enterprises in the four towns. The answer quota was only around 10%, and there were still less positive answers.  Nevertheless, I could find three interships in Gloucester(shire) and one in Metz. Several enterprises told me that they would be willing to accept an intern in 2004 or later. I also wanted to find internships for students in Trier. I found internships, but no students from Metz, Gloucester or 's-Hertogenbosch. So I couldn't reach the aim of 30 internships in 2003. That's why I decided to create this website: The Online-PEP-Version should allow youth and enterprises to contact each other without problems in the future.

PEP did also participate in the 1st Forum of European Youth work which took place in Hanover from 29th september to 1st october 2003.

Conditions of participation:

  • living or studying in one of the twinned towns

  • 18-25 years old

  • care yourself for insurances, accomodation etc., except other reglementations imposed by the enterprise where you do your internship

  • some enterprises might have additional conditions (e.g. language knowlegdge; please check the database to get more details about each internship)

PEP is open for students of each kind of school / university. So all enterprises can offer all possible internships. Youth can check the enterprise offers in the database. They apply directly at an enterprise, and the enterprise will decide whether to accept the student as their intern or not.  The application letter and the CV should be in the host countries language. Nevertheless, some enterprises agree to take students not knowing the host countries language, please check the database to get the details. Enterprises just have to send me an email with some details about the internship they offer and they'll get an entry in the database - or modify their entry.

The organisator:

I'm a 22 year old geography student. In 2000-2001, I passed one year as European Volunteer in the conseil général (County Council) du Calvados in Caen (France). There, they had an internship-network between the Calvados and its twinned regions, the Devon and Lower-Franconia (Germany). That's why once back in Germnany, I had the idea to create such a network between Trier and its different twinned towns: PEP Trier. I'm originary from Hassfurt in Lower Franconia, since starting my studies, I'm living in Trier.

More about what I do except PEP can be found under the topic Others .
